Some of the most commonly asked questions

What do I do after installing Avery?

Once you've completed the installation from the Google Workspace Marketplace and see this confirmation screen, Avery is successfully added to your workspace. You can now open it from the Extensions tab in any Google Sheet. If you don't have the Budgetdog template yet, you can make a copy here.

Where do I access Avery?

After installing, open any Google Sheet in your workspace and click on the Extensions tab at the top — Avery will be listed there. This gif shows exactly where to find it.

A button in the app keeps spinning — what’s going on?

This is a Google issue and usually happens when you're logged into different Gmail accounts. For example, your browser might be logged into one Gmail account, and Google Sheets into another. To fix it, make sure you’re using the same Gmail account for both your browser and Google Sheets. This screenshot can help you check, and this video from Tom walks you through the steps.

Is there an Excel version of Avery?

Not yet — Avery is currently available only on Google Sheets. If you’d like to request a version for Excel, Airtable, Notion, or any other platform, shoot me an email at charlie@averyapp.ai.

Can I automate other parts of my template?

Right now, Avery focuses on automating the expenses section of the template. Have ideas for other areas you’d like automated? Let me know at charlie@averyapp.ai.

What banks are supported?

Avery uses Plaid (for North America) to connect to your bank accounts. Plaid supports most major financial institutions. You can see the full list on here on Plaids website

How do I remove a connected account?

Click the three dots next to the account you want to remove — you’ll see an option to delete it. This Gif shows you how.

Can I rename an account?

Yes! Just click into the account name and start typing. Here’s a gif showing how.

My spreadsheet isn’t updating — what should I do?

Avery updates your sheet automatically every 24 hours. If it looks outdated, you can manually refresh it by clicking the 'Import Transactions' button. This gif shows how to do that.

How far back does Avery pull transactions?

That depends on the bank you've connected. The majority of institutions allow up to 2 years of transaction history, but it can vary slightly.

Avery isn't working — help!

If you're having issues, email charlie@averyapp.ai with as much detail as possible. Please include screenshots or a short video — this helps us troubleshoot quickly. Because Avery is privacy-first, we can’t see what’s happening in your spreadsheet unless you show us. If you prefer to get onboarded live feel free to book a time here.

Is my data safe with Avery?

Yes. We use Plaid and GoCardless, both industry leaders in security. We never store your transactions or sensitive banking info. Everything goes directly to your spreadsheet — we don’t touch or retain your data.

Does Avery budget tool connect to credit cards?

Yes. Can’t guarantee that every provider will be able to sync up, but they connect to bank and credit card companies.

Are we able to customize categories and will it auto update everywhere else on the sheet?

Yes, and it should auto-update everywhere else

Does Avery automatically add columns of the expenses for a certain category that exceed the available columns?

No, it simply sums the total in the last column to ensure the amount is correct.

Where to add additional categories?

It’s important to add additional categories in the “Budgeted Expenses - Estimate” to reflect in the Actual tabs. Avery_Categories sheet copies the date from “Budgeted Expenses - Estimate”.
